What's your writing process?
My main source of inspiration is derived from my life experiences. I enjoy journaling and recording, I can usually find something to write from one of my entries. I also read a lot of poetry to experiment with different forms and themes.
My process usually consists of me immediately writing when inspiration strikes me. I find it important to always keep a notebook and pen with you; if not, your Notes app will do. I try to write almost every single day, even if it’s just a line or a short blurb. When I open my notebook, I look through saved prompts or themes I have saved and try to knock out as much as I can.

What inspired Rights, Wrongs, and In-Betweens?
Writing letters is my love language. I believe it’s one of the purest forms of expressing emotions to someone. My poetry acts as letters to real people in my life. My experiences with my relationships inspired me to compile my deepest, most heartfelt letters and compile them to put Rights, Wrongs, and In-Betweens together.

How did you get published?
I went the self-publishing route, for there are many greedy companies or scams that just want your money and don’t want to properly publish your book. I wanted to have full control over my book, so I turned to sources like WriteGirl (whom I’ve worked with since I was a tween) and Reedsy to work with people who will be honest with you and truly honor your vision. It’s a tedious and rather expensive project to get your book out, but I found it to be worth it with the end product.

How do you deal with writer's block?
It’s not an easy hurdle to overcome, but giving yourself grace and breaks has always been helpful to me. It’s okay to not feel inspired sometimes; you can’t force your craft, or else it will feel disingenuous. Using apps or other work to give you prompts is always a good route. Keep reading books and watching movies, always focus on your interests and experiences to draw something from them.

Do you enjoy reading your poetry live?
Yes! I am still relatively new to doing open mics and poetry readings, but I enjoy sharing my work with strangers and friends alike. I hope to push myself to get out of my comfort zone and perform more. I still get nervous when I’m on the stage.
